Allison Murray

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist

Owner of AMW Myofunctional Therapy

A native Californian, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Nebraska, after which I returned to California where I have been practicing Dental Hygiene since 2014. During that time, I noticed an increasing number of adult patients suffering from orthodontic relapse, mouth-breathing, and facial muscle issues. Similarly in my pediatric patients, I saw an increase in crowding of the primary teeth. Unwilling to accept these processes as nothing more than “common problems”, my research into how and why these patterns existed led me to the field of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT), which offered a holistic approach to whole body health starting at the mouth.

Building upon my background in Dental Hygiene, I began my training in the field of OMT with the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. I am receiving/pursuing continuing education in this field with further courses from leaders in the field. Empowered by the tools OMT offers, I have been able to further educate patients, help them establish a healthier life, and be proactive with optimal oral health and functions.

If you feel you may benefit from OMT or have further questions about how OMT can help you, please use the form below to schedule your consultation.

“Allison is absolutely amazing! She has an exceptional talent for working with kids and genuinely cares so much about their well-being. Not only is she very organized, but she is also a ton of fun to work with. Her kindness, support, and unwavering dedication have truly made a difference in our daughter’s life. My daughter always has a great time with her, and we have seen incredible results in just the first few sessions of therapy. Our sessions lead to a boost in confidence, and less struggles with things that used to be hard as Allison is all about working with the child and at their pace so they never feel indifferent ever! Allison’s expertise and dedication are hands down worth a million stars! I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a myofunctional therapist who truly cares. Thank you, Allison!”

“Our experience working with Allison has far exceeded our expectations. My nine year old twin boys have a very complicated medical history and we found Allison to be one of the best professionals we have ever worked with. Her knowledge base and delivery methods were such a welcomed surprise. She has a gift in relating to the kids. She offered explanations of functions at a deeper level not only delivering a treatment, but providing education. This afforded our boys increased confidence in their performance and an ability to explain to others the importance of their therapy work for their cases. She was able to quickly identify unique needs of each child and create specific plans for them that she could modify and flow into deeper exercises. Allison made it easy and addressed issues that we never knew could be resolved with myofunctional therapy.
She taught our family so much. Additionally, she offered support before, during an after their frenuloplasty. She was available for questions as they arose. I most appreciated her knowledge of traditional and holistic recovery aides and her support of our choices
Since our boys tongue-tie release we have seen incredible growth across all areas of development. We can confidently assure you that this would have never been true without Allison’s hard work before, during, and after.”

“We sought out Allison’s help with our teen daughter’s orthodontic journey. We were trying to make the best but also gentlest changes possible and along the way we discovered that much of what we were hoping to achieve had a myofunctional link. When we started with Allison, our daughter was feeling quite defeated and upset that we were having to do “so much work”. Allison immediately empowered her with her own care and made the therapy about her, relatable and something she felt she had autonomy over. We have now been working with Allison over a year and we have seen precisely the physical changes we were hoping to see but in addition, we immediately saw changes in our daughter’s mood and her motivation. She loved being a partner in her care and the way Allison interacted with her and empowered her was truly invaluable. Since that time Allison has begun working with our younger children and she is equally as appropriate, engaging and relatable with them. Her explanations and types of exercises and activities she prescribed match each of the children’s abilities and keep them motivated to do them, mostly on their own. This has been a wonderful and powerful type of therapy for our whole family. Allison is an insightful, brilliant.and creative therapist. We are very thankful for having found her.”

“We began using Allison for our Myofunctional Therapy when my girls were 3, 6, and 8 years old. I was hesitant whether my youngest would be able to benefit from this therapy or not, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth! Allison was able to treat each child individually and customize each child’s functions to suit their own needs. In even just the first few months of treatment, I saw a tremendous increase in strength and witnessed what used to be harped on and practiced “functions” become second nature every day habits. Allison was so thorough, motivating, and consistent that my children complained as we moved into less frequent “maintenance” visits. I’m so grateful to have found such a knowledgeable and personable myofunctional therapist that has helped shape my children’s oral and physical health for the rest of their lives.”
